Football Manager 2008 on Linux

Third post about football manager 2008… (the last one ? don’t know…) Today, we are going to install the full version on football manager 2008 using wine. This How To is also available on AppDB.

  • First of all, you need to install the latest version of Wine (>0.9.48) to be able to install the game without installing the j2re environment.
  • Turn you Windows version to Windows XP
    • run the command
      winecfg
    • choose Windows XP

    Wine configuration

  • Move to your mounted CD directory (example /media/cdrom on ubuntu) and install the game
    wine setup.exe

    • Football manager install

  • Replace the fm.exe file located in the fm2008 directory (~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008 by default) with the no-cd crack. The no-cd crack can be found easily using dedicated websites.
  • Change the Windows version to Windows Vista
  • Run fm2008 and play! (wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/fm.exe by default)

EN FRANCAIS

  • Tout d’abord, installer la dernière version de Wine (<0.9.48) afin de ne pas avoir à installer la j2re
  • Changer sa version de windows en Windows XP
    • executer la commande
      winecfg
    • choisir Windows XP

    Wine configuration

  • Aller dans le repertoire du CDrom (exemple /media/cdrom on ubuntu) et installer le jeux
    wine setup.exe

    • Football manager install

  • Remplacer le fichier fm.exe situé dans le répertoire de fm2008 (~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008 par defaut) par le crack no-cd. Le crack peut être trouvé facilement en utilisant des sites spécialisés.
  • Changer la version de Windows par Windows Vista
  • Executer fm2008 et jouer! (wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/fm.exe par défaut)

    Using the 8.01 “beta” patch, the no-cd crack is useless. An How to is avalable here

    Hi,
    I tried running wine setup.exe from the cd, but the setup window is all grey.How can I install the game?

    I run wine 0.48 on Kubuntu Gutsy.

    Is compiz enabled ? you must disable it before installing or running the game.

    I have it installed, but I don’t use it. Now i tried again, but it does not work. Should I remove compiz completely?
    (before trying again, I used kwin –replace). Maybe I should use other way to disable compiz?

    kwin --replace should be enough to disable compiz. If your problem isn’t due to compiz, try to remove completely your ~/.wine directory, it is maybe corrupted.

    erasing ~/.wine directory solvedthe issue :) I play with windows version set to XP. What changes if you change it to vista?

    Great :)

    There are some issues with the install process using Vista. Except that, nothing changes when running the game.

    hello! when i’m using 0.9.48 version during installation i have problems with default cdrom mounting place. i have always error (during “coping phase”) saying “insert new disc - choose right folder”. Any ideas ? May you provide your config files ? Thanks for your posts about fm :)

    :) sry, for my previous msg. I have figured it out, but it’s “old-style wine-method”. Just copied windows installation :) to ~/.wine. I hope it will work stable for longer time :)

    added the mounted directory in winecfg and the install went through. substituted crack fm.exe and it seems ok, though it changed screen resolution after i quit.

    hey..i have fully installed the game but i used deamon tools to mount it..when i click to initiate the game it says emulation detected and refers me to the website..any tips to how this can be resolved? many thanks tom

    Hi Romain,

    I’ve been reading your posts with great entusiasm as I really miss playing FM at just want it to work on my Ubuntu…

    I have tried everything I could find around the net, but it hasn’t helped me at all :-( I’m absolutely not good at this Ubuntu thing and I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong with Wine or where the trouble is.

    I’m using 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, have installed the newest Wine and have installed java too. When I want to install the game a popup comes up for about 1 sec and then *poof* gone again and nothing more happens. How come?? Anything I can do?

    It’s a laptop I’m using and I can tell you that I can’t make “the cube” work either if that gives you anything…??

    Please help me!!!

    j’ai réussi à installer le jeu, le patch, et j’ai aussi copier le crack dans le bon dossier. J’arrive à lancer le jeu je vois bien tout les écrans d’intro et la, le jeu s’arrete et lorsque je lance le jeu avec wine console, ca me met :

    Hi,

    I’ve installed on Linux Mint as you’ve instructed and it seems to work fine, was just wondering what side effects running the no-cd-crack will have on the game because I know that they’ve included things that make playing the game a bit weird if it’s a cracked version.

    i’ve succesfully install fm2008 on my ubuntu, but when i play, the game run so slow…
    oyeah, i use dual boot on my computer, n when i play fm08 on windoz it’s just run smoothly…

    how’s that happen??

    i have football manager in a copy and i try to install the game but requires to me to put a password were i find in the internet!! please help me to install this game!! i have windows xp and my computer have 2gb ram 1 terra bite hard disk. thaks !!
